Summer at the League
Summer at the League (Art Students League in NYC) is a wonderful place to be. Frank O’Cain gives a watercolor abstracts class that is second to none. The setup is a wild, chaotic mix of fabrics, vases, bottles, books, flowers, hats, scarves, fruit that absolutely defies description and forces you to pick and choose what you want to paint. Frank makes the rounds dispensing invaluable advice. And the students struggle to learn and create with varying degrees of success. It’s exhilarating, confusing, maddening, frustrating and energizing … sometimes all at once.
So here’s a sampling of what I accomplished … amazingly all based (somewhat loosely) on the setup in the class and my attempt to pick up on Frank’s teaching about color temperature.
