Costa Rica yet again
Somehow that relatively short little vacation in Costa Rica a few months ago has stayed with me, generating more sketches and one larger painting (so far). It’s like the gift that keeps on giving.

I did two versions of Just up the Beach. The first one looked more like one of my photos. Like Surfin, this version combines three photos.

Finally, Sunset at Playa Langosta was a study for a larger painting which is still in the works.

I wanted to play with the reflection of the setting sun on the water and the rough coral reefs at low tide. In the larger painting, I’m combining the sunset and reflection on the water from this sketch with the tree from Just up the Beach. I’m having trouble with it though, so I may have to do more than one to get it right.
In the meantime, I did this larger painting of the pelicans fishing late in the day. Five o’clock, sitting on a log drink in hand, watching the pelicans swoop and dive … it doesn’t get much better than that.
